Design and construction of a brand new BREEAM Excellent rated, 3073m2 primary school with an integrated nursery unit on the site of the existing school. The new split-level building creates a main entrance from the lower car park level, with teaching spaces and their support areas on the upper ground floor.
The first phase of works involved demolition of the existing buildings on site, bulk excavations, drainage and construction of an 8m reinforced concrete retaining wall to allow for the split-level construction of the school building. To facilitate demolition and construction on the existing site, the school was moved to temporary accommodation to minimise disruption to teaching and learning.
The new school building comprises a steel structural frame, erected upon a reinforced concrete raft foundation. Structural steel decking has been installed and the Structural Framing System (SFS) for the inner skin assembled.
Utilising the existing vehicular entrance, a new car park was provided to accommodate staff parking, coach turning and deliveries. The existing parent drop off layby has been increased in size to accommodate up to 30 vehicles.
