New Headquarters Building, Carmarthen

The project involved the construction of a 1,500sqm two-storey BREEAM Very Good rated headquarters building with links to the existing administration and control buildings. The scheme provides fully fitted out offices, IT rooms, and welfare facilities.

It has been specifically designed for office based staff and incorporates innovative energy saving components. These include a passive ventilation system with solar shading and under floor heating that is powered by a gas-condensing boiler. The project received the 2006 Carmarthenshire County Council Building Awards for Sustainability.

The building consists of a steel-framed structure with a rain screen cladding extends over the majority of the rear elevation and the central atrium is fully glazed. The under floor system powered by a mains gas fired condensing bolier heats the building throughout. Hot water is heated by a solar panel that is located on the roof of the rear elevation. In the event that the solar energy is minimal the condensing boiler will compensate for the shortfall.

External works include infrastructure works, car park, access road, site services, soft and hard landscaping.

All work was successfully carried out whilst the existing facilities remained fully operational.
