Completion Date: June 2008
Contract Period: 31 Weeks
Client: Miller Argent
Construction of 700m of offline carriageway, a 54m-span composite road bridge, with reinforced concrete deck and four structural steel beams with abutments constructed on rock, along with numerous other structures including culverts, retaining and boundary walls.
To divert the existing watercourse we redesigned a culvert, installing 100m of Ridgistorm 1,200dia pipe with reinforced concrete headwalls and a road crossing slab, and 1km of open surface water channel with gabion protection, including a complex stepped channel in a steep area. We were the first UK contractor to use electrofusion welding on this pipe type and size. We delivered the project on time despite weather and design delays and managed H&S to stringent quarrying legislation.
