Foryd Road Bridge

Early Contractor Involvement project including design and development work prior to the constuction phase to replace the bearings of this two span, 1300 tonne, CADW listed bridge which carries the A548 over the Clwyd Estuary.
In order to replace the bearings a pontoon was constructed to transport the access scaffolding suspended beneath the structure. The bridge was jacked up using 4 number Hi Force HFL1002 cylinder jacks connected in series .The new bearings each weighing over 2 tonnes were replaced with replica bearings. A PTFE sliding surface replaced the existing rollers. Following concrete repairs to the superstructure, a new waterproofing system and surfacing was applied followed by the flexible surfacing and road markings.
The 10 week contract was an excellent example of team working between Denbighshire County Council, Atkins, Dawnus and our Supply Chain. The scheme was awarded maximum scores for each KPI category by Denbighshire County Council.
