Stormy Castle was recently named the Building Category winner at The Concrete Society's coveted Awards for Excellence in Concrete at the annual presentation in London.

This is the fourth award for Stormy Castle, having recently also won the 2014 RIBA Manser Medal, for the best new house in the UK, the 2014 RIBA Welsh Architectural Awards and the 2014 National Eisteddfod Gold Medal for Architecture.

Dawnus carried out the construction of Stormy Castle, a contemporary private house on a hillside on the Gower peninsula. The subterranean house is spread over 3 key levels, built to follow the contours of the landscape including a green roof, fully glazed elevations to maximise the views and Corten steel accents to external doors and cladding.

The 3 bedroom house is not only striking from the outside, but includes a stunning internal finish with polished concrete floors flowing throughout and crystalline white ceilings which help create a contemporary feel in a rural setting.

The house also boasts sustainability credentials, with a comprehensive range of energy, recycling and heating strategies incorporated into the design.
