Dawnus Midlands has been awarded a £9m road highway scheme aimed at improving infrastructure and transport links around Walsall.
The Darlaston Strategic Development Area is a significant urban regeneration project taking currently unproductive land and developing it into a major centre for economic growth and employment. In order for this to be successful, new and improved transport and infrastructure must be provided.
The scheme involves road and bridge widening, new highway alignment, junction improvements, a new roundabout, and lowering an existing carriageway underneath a listed aqueduct.
Councillor Lee Jeavons said, “The importance of this project not just for Walsall but for the regional highway network cannot be underestimated. Better roads around the Black Country Enterprise Zone, which includes Darlaston, is going to unlock land which can be used to create thousands of jobs and improve the operating environment for firms”.
Works have recently commenced and are due for completion in February 2016.
