Dawnus supported the 2018 Open Doors campaign last week, organised by Build UK and the CITB. Open Doors provides an opportunity for the public to see behind the scenes of a construction site and to highlight the vast array of careers available within the industry.
Dawnus opened it's doors to it's Ysgol Parc-y-Tywyn 21st Century School project. This Passivhaus primary school project is being delivered for Carmarthenshire County Council, and provided lots of talking points for all visitors including the waste management strategies on site to ensure zero waste to landfill, different trades on site, career choices, sustainable design choices and building techniques to ensure Passivhaus accreditation.
Our first day saw over 70 primary school pupils visit the site, inspiring students from an early age to consider construction as a career. Changing the image of the industry and recruiting more young people from a diverse background is something Dawnus is working hard to achieve, and our engagement and interaction with young people does just this.
Our second day welcomed students from a local comprehensive school who were considering entering the industry after school. The visit allowed them to see first-hand what it was like on a construction site and find out more about career routes in to the industry. The students left feeling positive about the careers they wanted to pursue and excited to start their college courses next year.
The Open Doors campaign has allowed Dawnus to promote its standard approach to engaging with young people, and showcase our high quality building services. Our site teams will continue to work with local communities and young people to deliver positive and long lasting benefits to the local communities where we work.
