Project Overview

This project involved the construction of five mixed use light industrial / commercial units within the 50-acre Aberporth Technology Park.

Incorporated within the design are environmental features including ‘green roof’ construction, sustainable drainage and passive ventilation systems, through which the completed project achieved BREEAM Very Good.

The units are constructed of structural steel frames clad with a combination of glazed and metal external walls together with feature precast concrete columns. Internal finishes include suspended floors, ceilings, power floated floors and stainless steel balustrade.

The technology park is located on an exposed brownfield site, therefore through the implementation of sensitive landscaping and low impact construction methods site bio-diversity has been increased.

After completion Dawnus were awarded a further contract to carry out modifications to Unit 7 so that it could accommodate the development and testing of unmanned aerial vehicles which also uses the adjacent airfield. The work involved the installation of 14m wide hanger doors and the internal fit out of the unit.

This redevelopment of the former MoD airfield created a Centre of Excellence for UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) systems, a sector with the capacity to create up to 1000 high technology jobs, vastly increasing opportunity for local employment.
