Project Overview

The Dawnus South Wales team was appointed as the main contractor for new build and improvement works for two primary school facilities at the new Tonypandy and Porth 3 - 16 schools. The two 21st Century School projects were awarded under the South and Mid Wales Collaborative Construction Framework.  

The £10.7m Tonypandy School project involved the construction of a new, two-storey, BREEAM Excellent primary school building for 480 pupils, demolition of part of an existing 1970’s single-storey building and partial refurbishment and remodelling of the existing secondary school. The works also included associated external works including soft and hard play areas, Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), car parking, flood attenuation, drainage and services. 

The £9.3m Porth School project involved demolition of an existing 1930’s building, Sixth Form Blocks and Swimming Pool, the construction of a new, two-storey, BREEAM Excellent primary school for 330 pupils and refurbishment to areas of the existing secondary school. The works also included associated external works comprising soft and hard play areas, car parking, flood attenuation, drainage and services.
