Dawnus was awarded this contract for the design and construction of the first new build secondary school academy in Wokingham for over 60 years. The new school forms part of Wokingham Borough Council’s larger strategic development scheme for Arborfield, and caters for 1200 pupils from the proposed residential development, as well as from existing communities in the borough.
The development comprises a two-storey building with an approximate footprint of 6,280m2. The school features two landscaped courtyards, external classrooms and dining areas. It also includes playing fields and a floodlit all-weather pitch.
Externally the works involved lime stabilisation to car parks and hard surface games areas, car parking facilities, sports hall, 400m of natural grass running tracks and games pitches, and hard surface multi-use games areas.
We worked with Wokingham Borough Council and the Elevate employment service to provide employment and training opportunities on the Arborfield project, and a number of targets were set for providing placements over the project duration.
In March 2017 the scheme was awarded a British Safety Council International Award.
