Dawnus was awarded this contract under the South West Wales Regional Contractors Framework (SWWRCF) as part of Neath Port Talbot Council's school improvement plan. This design and build contract was completed as the first phase of the major redevelopment of Ystalyfera School campus.
The works comprised demolition of the old 1960’s three-storey building and a single-storey demountable with construction of the new teaching block on the old footprint. The new building comprises a combination of two and three-storeys and consists of general teaching rooms, technology rooms, science labs and associated accommodation. The building form typically consists of face brickwork, glazed curtain walling and feature panels. The superstructure is a reinforced concrete frame up to the third floor ceiling level with a steel framed pitched roof. The surrounding areas have been fully landscaped.
The school remained fully operational throughout the construction of this project. Site layout, logistic and traffic management plans were developed in collaboration with the school and Neath Port Talbot Council, to ensure the utmost safety of the school pupils, staff and visitors.
