This project comprised the design and construction of a new surgery and pharmacy on the site of the former practice in Splott, Cardiff. The project involved the demolition of the existing building and construction of a new car park, pedestrian entrance and bike store.
The new building has a total internal floor area of 1145m2 containing seven treatment rooms and a minor operation room, central atrium above the waiting area, photovoltaic panels on the south facing roof, various styles of external cladding, and an outside recreational area for staff with a balcony.
Externally the works include car parking, drainage, pedestrian entrance, bike store, and soft and hard landscaping. The works also included the connections to statutory providers for foul and storm drains, incoming electric, gas, water and telecoms.
Designed to be fully inclusive, the surgery achieved a BREEAM rating of Excellent, with several energy efficient measures. These include auto-dimming lighting, stack ventilation system, energy efficient taps and increased thermal and air leakage performance, which collectively resulted in the building achieving an A rated Energy Performance Certificate.
Cloughmore Surgery embraces the council’s programme of regeneration within the local area and provides residents with a state-of-the-art medical centre as well as a landmark building within the community.
