This design and build project involved the refurbishment of a six-storey building located in Knightsbridge. The property is a brick-built Victorian town house adjacent to Sloane Square.
Works included the refurbishment of the basement, ground, third and fourth floors to create two high specification two-storey apartments while maintaining the external façade.
Our work involved the complete demolition of the existing roof and fourth floors, the construction of new steel framework, timber structures and all the necessary trades to bring this unit up to the highest standards.
The existing first and second floors of the building are under separate ownership and were occupied for the duration of the works. There were also complex party wall agreements with the adjacent properties, which had to be managed so that work could proceed.
The roof area was remodelled to form a terrace and to create an additional en-suite bedroom. To facilitate this work, our scaffolding subcontractor constructed a protective canopy to allow works to proceed in the event of unfavourable weather. These works were undertaken directly above the second floor flat therefore maximum care was taken when erecting the heavy steelwork in order to minimise any disruption to residents and avoid any damage to the property.
The existing passenger lift in the central courtyard was demolished and a new lift was installed within a steel structural frame. The communal access stairs have been reconfigured and a new kitchen extension has been added to the rear of the building.
In addition to the construction of the two luxury apartments and installation of the new lift, our works included renewing all incoming mains services, and integrating the remaining apartment onto the new system.
