This design and build project involved the part-demolition and refurbishment of an existing retail unit, and construction of a new rear extension containing a new seven-screen cinema complex. The new build extension also includes three retail units fronting onto an existing shopping mall and the introduction of new escalators to serve an existing car park. We also provided a full upgrading and modernisation of the existing shopping mall.
Works also included the refurbishment of the internal floors, staircases, link bridge and roofing of the multi storey car park, including concrete repairs, new lighting, decorating and new floor finishes. A new mobility facility was constructed on the ground floor of the MSCP for shoppers.
We met regularly with our client and the shopping centre management team to ensure our work did not adversely affect the operational centre. We also delivered presentations to existing tenants to ensure they were fully aware of all programmed works and deliveries. Delivery timings were agreed and we ensured a banksman was present to manage vehicle movements.
Some works were carried out at night to avoid disruption to the centre; for example, there were numerous service diversions that required power to be shut off to the centre, which were carefully co-ordinated to ensure that power was restored in time for the following day’s business.
