This project consisted of the design and construction of a new Trunk Road Service Area (TRSA), in a prominent, rural location off the newly A30 at Victoria Junction, west of Bodmin.
The TRSA features a central 2325m² amenity building with mezzanine that houses various retail and food outlets, recreation and picnic areas, a petrol filling station, dedicated parking areas and facilities for cars, motorcycles, caravans, coaches and heavy goods vehicles together with access and service roads.
The building consists of a steel framed structure with concrete slab, clad with a mixture of insulated cavity masonry walls, composite insulated cladding wall panels and curtain walling with aluminium framed windows and doors. Offices, stores and plant rooms together with WCs and communal areas were finished and serviced.
The development is unique in design, environmentally sustainable and built of high quality materials, locally sourced where possible. The development does not replicate any similar service area in the UK and achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating.
The project also involved constructing tracks, crane pads and an electrical sub-station for two large wind turbines at the site, which provide electricity to the TRSA and add to the scheme’s green credentials.
Dawnus constructed all access roads and car parks for the TRSA, involving over 10,000m2 of surfacing. We provided over 200 car parking spaces, as well as 15 coach parking spaces, 18 HGV parking spaces, and 15 caravan spaces. There is also a charging point for electric cars, free air and coach and truck drivers have a dedicated washroom block.
