Role: Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
Tell us about your role, the project you are supporting and the type of work you undertake on a daily basis
I am an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor currently working on Dawnus’ Eastern Bay Link project in Cardiff Bay. This is a £36 million project and involves the construction of a new dual carriageway in South Cardiff between Queens Gate and Ocean Way Roundabouts.
My day-to-day duties include updating registers, paying subcontractors, measuring works, drafting enquiries and assisting the other surveyors on site.
What attracted you to Dawnus?
The reputation of the company and all the awards that it has achieved, as well as the rapid growth and success.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The things I enjoy most about working for Dawnus are the support I receive from all staff members regarding anything I am struggling with. There is also a really comfortable workplace atmosphere.
What training and development opportunities have Dawnus offered you?
As well as studying my BTEC Construction and the Built Environment, Dawnus have offered to pay for me to attend numerous courses and seminars relating to measurement, contract management and other aspects of a surveyor’s day-to-day duties.
What have been your highlight so far?
My biggest highlight so far is being given the responsibility of managing my own contract.

The life and culture within Dawnus is one that is professional, friendly and extremely supportive.
What are your future aspirations?
To develop into a competent and capable Senior Quantity Surveyor.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of applying to Dawnus?
I would tell them to go for it. Approach the opportunity with a hard working ethic and a good attitude towards working within a team.
