I joined Dawnus in the Summer of 2013 and spent 15 months on an Industrial Placement full time at the B3193 Re-Alignment Scheme project.  I then worked part time in Winter 2014 whilst continuing my degree.  I joined Dawnus as a Graduate Engineer in the Summer of 2015.

Tell us about your role, the project you are supporting and the type of work you undertake on a daily basis

I am currently a Graduate Engineer which mainly consists of roles predominantly in quality control/records, setting out work, health and safety, short term planning and drawing analysis and interpretation.

I am currently on the Dock 12 Retaining Wall project in Plymouth. The type of work I undertake on a daily basis is mainly dependent on the construction phase at hand, examples are setting out work for the locations of wall anchors to managing quality control of multiple concrete pours.  Key elements that are throughout the project mainly consist of quality records and managing works towards programme deadlines and milestones.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy the collaborative work ethic from site teams and the ever changing tasks that are present throughout projects.  I also enjoy acquiring experience in how elements of projects are constructed and how to properly plan, manage and record works effectively and efficiently.

What training and development opportunities have Dawnus offered you?

I am currently on the Dawnus ICE accredited Further Learning Programme which enables me to achieve the further learning criteria set out by the ICE and assists me in completing the attributes and objectives set out by the ICE in order to pass review and gain Chartership (CEng).

How would you describe the life and culture at Dawnus?

Friendly, flexible and satisfying.  The works carried out on projects will always consist of a collaborative site team that aim for the same goal and they will always assist you throughout the duration of the project.  Meeting new people and sharing experience of the construction industry with them is humble and worthwhile.

What are your future aspirations?

My future aspirations consist of acquiring more experience with various projects in order to progress through the Dawnus hierarchy rank towards becoming a Senior Engineer/Site Agent/Project Manager.  I want to achieve my Chartership in 3 years’ time.
