What attracted you to Dawnus?
I was attracted to Dawnus because of their professional approach to the construction industry and the quality of work that comes from Dawnus. I knew this was a company that I wanted to be a part of.
What were your day-to-day responsibilities?
My day-to-day responsibilities included setting out points for the foundations of the building, taking level surveys of concrete slabs, ensuring that the framework of the structure was aligned correctly, giving depths for certain excavations.
What aspects of Dawnus life and culture did you enjoy?
I enjoyed the friendly but professional atmosphere within Dawnus. I felt as though I could approach anyone on site and they would help me if I was struggling with something.
The best thing about Dawnus is that they give opportunities to people like me who want to further their career planning. Without these placements I would not know what on-site experience is like. Dawnus also has a great reputation for health and safety within construction and I have learnt that from being on site.
What have you gained from your time at the company?
I have gained valuable experience from working with Dawnus. The practical work I’ve learnt whilst I’ve been on site has enhanced the theoretical information that I’ve learnt in the classroom from University.
How has this placement helped with your career planning?
The placement has helped me confirm that Civil Engineering is the career I would like to pursue. The experience that I have gained from this work placement has also helped me within my studies.
What advice would you give to future placement students?
Go ahead with the placement at Dawnus as you will not regret it! The placement will give you an insight into how a construction site should be managed to the highest standard.
