This project involved several civil engineering works packages as part of the overall Pontypridd Station Refurbishment development.
We were responsible for all groundworks and drainage for the whole development and carried out all civils works to the forecourt area, lobby and on the platform. The works included:
- Forecourt: Adjustments, alterations and renovations to the existing road layout and public areas which included granite paving, drainage and ducting, street furniture, lighting columns, fencing, signage and resurfacing works. We re-used some of the existing stone surfacing materials for areas of the new paving. The new forecourt now has separate taxi and drop off areas, disabled parking spaces, cycle parking hoops and CCTV.
- Lobby: Modifications to the original platform access stairwell to conform to current DDA requirements. The lobby area was refitted with new facilities including installation of a new lift to the platform level. A new access to the lobby was formed which required the removal of a section of 2m thick masonry wall that was bearing the load of the tracks and platform above.
- Platform Works: We carried out platform improvement works which involved minor repair and replacement where necessary of the island platform tarmac and pennant stone areas, providing new platform drainage and BWIC Mechanical, Electrical, and Telecoms installations.
