This project was awarded under the Centro West Midlands Highways and Civils Minor Works Construction Framework. The project included an extension to an existing park and ride facility at Rowley Regis Railway Station, which serves the Birmingham Stourbridge Worcester line, with 360 extra car parking spaces, increasing capacity to more than 700 spaces.
Works involved site clearance, partial demolition and modification of an existing underbridge, installation of a new surface water drainage system including attenuation tank and interceptor and earthworks including the removal of any unacceptable or contaminated material from the site, filling soft spots and preparation of formation levels.
The car park construction involved foundation and pavement layers, fencing, kerb laying, signs and road markings, resurfacing of existing car park and landscaping. We installed low energy street lighting, electric vehicle charging points, display screen equipment, and CCTV cameras and help points linked to the Network Safety and Security Centre. We also installed a Cycle Hub with capacity for the secure storage of up to 30 bikes.
The site was located adjacent to the operational Rowley Regis Railway Line, residential properties and local businesses. Detailed traffic management plans were developed to ensure that disruption was kept to a minimum and all accesses were maintained throughout the project. Phasing plans were included in the plans and ensured the required parking was maintained.
