Project Overview

The project involved the design and construction of a new reinforced earth retaining wall, and foundations for a Gateway feature as part of Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council’s enhancement works to Abertillery town centre.

The new structure is a reinforced earth retaining wall, 22m in length, and comprises masonry block facing panels, which are an integral part of the reinforced earth retaining wall system.

The wall was constructed to create a platform to support the new gateway feature, which consists of six stainless steel spires, the tallest being 16m in height; this represents the historic locations of former colliery sites from the surrounding area.
