Awarded under the South East Wales Highways and Civil Engineering Framework, this contract involved access improvements to Merthyr Tydfil Railway Station as part of the Town Centre Regeneration Programme. The project involved construction of access ramps and steps from Merthyr Tydfil Railway Station to Masonic Street and adjacent car park.
The works comprised high quality public realm works, retaining wall structures, earthworks, drainage, fencing, party wall works, statutory undertakers diversions and protection work, street lighting, soft and hard landscaping, and provision of street furniture.
The site was located adjacent to the operational Merthyr Tydfil Railway Station, residential properties and local businesses. Access was restricted and traffic management plans were implemented to ensure minimal disruption to the local road users and pedestrians.
The works were carried out in a restricted site with many affected local stakeholders. Traffic management and phasing plans were crucial in the success of delivering the scheme with minimal disruption to local stakeholders, ensuring access maintained at all times for railway users, residents and local businesses.
