Project Overview

This scheme was awarded to us under the Centro West Midlands Highways and Civils Minor Works Framework. Works involved the construction of six new off-street bus stands, the installation of a new covered walkway providing shelter and a waiting area, and new higher quality cantilever bus shelters.

Highway improvement works were also undertaken including increasing the width of the interchange system by 11m to allow two-way flow for buses, realignment of the park and ride facility and a new cycle parking area. We also provided improvements to the main railway station building including:

  • New toilets with parent and child provision
  • Electronic passenger information for bus and rail
  • Installation of CCTV and Help Points
  • Talking totems that give audio passenger information

The Railway Station and the park and ride facility remained operational throughout the scheme with works carried out in a high footfall environment. The site was also restricted by its proximity to a busy road, commercial and residential properties. Bus routes remained operational with stops moved to temporary on the road stops.

To ensure minimal disruption and the safety of all, we carried out extensive liaison with Centro, London Midland and the operational staff of the station prior to works starting and maintained successful liaison throughout the scheme via regular meetings, weekly and monthly updates and day to day liaison with the operational station staff.
