Awarded under the SWWRC Framework, this two stage Design and Build project involved delivery of a new BREEAM Excellent, replacement primary school for 240 pupils, delivered to BIM Level 2.
As the first building delivered by Dawnus to achieve full Passivhaus accreditation, the school was delivered to exceptional levels of air tightness, providing high levels of air quality for staff and pupils and costing up to 80% less to heat than an average school. The entire complex is run off a standard domestic boiler.
Construction of the superstructure comprised a complete timber frame, with all openings correctly sealed in line with the airtightness requirements.
Finishes to the building included a mixture of tiles and timber open board cladding to a majority of the exterior, with a zinc standing seam roof on the main building. Cedar shingles and a green roof were applied to the flying start facility.
The existing school building remained fully operational throughout construction and during the phase 2 works was demolished to make way for the new playing field and multi-function games court.
