Design and construction of a new, BREEAM Excellent 21st Century Primary School, awarded under the SWWRC Framework. The new Passivhaus accredited building provides accommodation for 330 mainstream pupils and an integral 45 place nursery.
The school was designed in line with our Patrwm 21 approach to achieve a bespoke, sustainable, Passivhaus school design, with excellent thermal performance and exceptional airtightness through material selection and high quality construction.
An entirely timber frame was utilised for the superstructure, finished predominantly with Welsh Larch open board timber cladding, incorporating zinc clad elements to the single storey section of the school. External works included provision of an outdoor play area with segregated zones for the younger years, a drop off area at the school entrance and a large car park.
We worked with the Constructing Excellence Wales Zero Waste Initiative throughout the project to achieve zero waste to landfill.
